Human Rights House Launch South Caucasus Human Rights Network

The Human Rights House Network officially launched the new South Caucasus Human Rights Network by holding a presentation on 16th July 2009 in Georgia. The network consists of 10 organisations from each of the countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

‘Continued clampdown against civil society and media activists in Azerbaijan’
Amnesty International USA have released a public statement which expresses their concern at the detainment of Adnan Hajizada and Emin Milli, the two activists facing disputed charges of hooliganism which could carry a five year sentence.

To support the case of Adnan Hajizada and Emin Milli, we are launching our first campaign which aims to highlight the clampdown on freedom of expression in Azerbaijan.

Jailed Azeri Newspaper editor receives Amnesty International Award

Eynulla Fatullayev, arrested in April 2007 following years of harassment by the authorities, was given a two-and-a-half-year sentence for libel. In October 2007, he was convicted on further charges including terrorism and his prison term was increased by six years.
